I studied advertising for 4 years. I mostly learned the conventions. It wasn't until I started applying myself to creating something new that I really hit my stride with my work. I realized that the best advertising (and the only ads I want to make) are the ones that don't feel like an ad. People know when they are be advertised to, and the only way to get through to them,
is to go indirectly.
I like the conceptual side of things that comes with Copywriting, but I also can't get enough of the visuals that demand our attention on the Art Direction side.
Ultimately I just want to make exciting things.
